Some of us plan on moving on to grad school, business school, law school and some even med school. It is definitely good to get further education after this, but as business majors it is advised to get a couple years of work experience under your belt. In fact, Harvard Business School requires that appplicants have work experience. So it is not very wise to go to grad school right after undergrad. I found out from one of the counselors at Career Services that the name/image of the business school you attend is very important. It matters more on that level than it does on an undergraduate level.

Now for those of us that feel that if we do not go to grad school right afterwards we won't be able to get ourselves to do it, here is a link to career services website with great information on grad school: Career Services Grad School. This should help you answer those troubling questions that you are dealing with. If you decide that grad school is it for you check out Princeton Review for rankings, test preparation information, and much more.

My Amazon Bookstore

I just wanted to bring your attention to my bookstore on your left. It features two books that are good reads for graduating college seniors. It is very informative and can definitely assist in the transition from college to the "real world." There are a couple ways you can do this. There are a number of websites that provide this kind of information like Collegegrad.com, Experience.com, and other popular job search engines. Some of these break down the offer really well, by comparing it to cost of living in the area, industry, entry-level vs. mid-level and many more categories. I learned that earning $50,000 a year in NYC is the same as earning $35,000 a year in Delaware. Also make sure you really check out your benefits package because insurance, 401ks and all that other stuff really makes a difference. You can also talk to friends to find out how much those in similar majors are being offered. In addition the US government has statistics on these topics, so you can check out state and local government websites. So be careful when evaluating job offers, and keep all these things in mind.

Wake up call...

So I got a whole bunch of tests back last week that were given before spring break. These were my actual first round of grades that I received, which was a little weird because it's already halfway through the semester. My test grades were a rude awakening for me. I've pretty much been slacking this semester, I've had a very nonchalant attitude about school work and a lot of other things. In addition, from my job search I've realized that what I learn in the classroom does not directly apply to any real life job, so I have lost my whole drive for learning and filling my brain with information because I feel what I'm being taught is of no use to me. Also, the fact that I have a job doesn't help. However, the bottomline is that I need to stop slacking so much because it makes no sense to mess up my gpa now because of my laziness. A part of me would still like to graduation with a good gpa. I'm trying to get myself to snap out of this slump that I'm in, but it's much harder than I thought it would be...

And the senioritis only gets worse...

If any of you out there are like me spring break has only worsened your case of senioritis. I left thinking that I would come back energized and ready to take on the rest of the semester. However, after spending a whole week doing nothing but partying and laying on the beach it is even more difficult for me to focus or find the motivation to sit through classes. In addition the realization that I have less than 2 months of school left does not help the situation. Right now I just wanna chill real hard!! Some of us are stressed out about relationships and what to do with them when we graduate. I have created four categories that I think every senior falls into. There are as follows:

Serious-committed Relationship: This category is for those who have been with a significant other for over 1 year. Your relationship is very serious and your significant other is a big part of your life. You might be trying to align your plans after graduation, so you can stay together, or you might be having a hard time figuring things out.

Semi-Serious Relationship: This is for those individuals who have been in a relationship for 3-11 months. Your relationship is still new, or it may be getting to that point where you're past the honeymoon stage. You might be deciding how important your significant other is to you in relation to your life-long plans. Do you want to part ways, move somewhere together, or give a stab at a long-distance?

Dating/New Relationship: This is for those of us who are casually seeing someone, or just started to get serious with someone we've been dating. You might be wondering if it's worth it to take it to the next stage with that person. You might be feeling that this person is the one and you want to give things a chance to see where it would go.

Living it up!: Those individuals who are all about having fun right now are in this category. You might have some random hook ups here and there, but that's as far it goes.

I personally fall into the Dating/New Relationships category. I have this guy I recently started seeing, and I'm not quite sure what if there's any potential in us. I'm usually a person who uses my head and not my heart, so I'm leaning towards just moving on with my life and not factoring him in it.

What category do you fall in?

This blog is dedicated to the Class of '05!
